Allen Ward, 60, passed away at Clinton Memorial Hospital on Dec. 20, 2015. He was born in Mulberry, Arkansas on April 23, 1955 to his loving parents, Donald Ward, formerly of Wilmington, and Boneeta (Goery) Bloom, formerly of Hillsboro. He resided his entire life in Wilmington. Allen was a free spirit and loved living life in his own unique way. He had an uncanny love and devotion to his hometown Wilmington. Allen will be known and remembered by many as "the man who lived under the bridge." Allen loved people and was loved by many. Allen was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by three brothers, Ron (Karen) Goery of Elko, Nevada, John Ward of Bloomingdale, Georgia, Donald (Mickey) Ward of Burkburnett, Texas; and two sisters, Kim (Dennis) Morris of Bloomingdale, Georgia and Kelly Martin of Hillsboro; as well as two cousins, Tommy Allen and Terry Allen both of Pennsylvania; and many nieces and nephews. Allen's family wishes to thank the Clinton County Homeless Shelter for their compassion and care for Allen. We also thank the many, many people unknown to us that visited Allen, took him food, clothes and supplies and encouraged him along the way. A special thanks also goes to the Wilmington Police Department as they regularly checked in on Allen especially in the bitter cold winter weather. May God bless you all that took the time to check on and help out our dear brother. A memorial service for Allen Ward of Wilmington will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 2 at Hillsboro Bible Baptist Church, 8080 State Rte. 124, Hillsboro.
