Billy Charles Fairchild, 97, of Sabina, Ohio passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2023 at Autumn Years Nursing & Rehabilitation Center. His wife, Zula Fornshell Fairchild, survives. They were married on August 16, 1946. He was born December 9, 1925 in West Liberty, Kentucky, son of the late William E. and Essie B. McClain Fairchild. Mr. Fairchild honorably served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
Billy was a lifelong farmer, but more importantly, was a devoted husband and father. He was a member of the Sabina Baptist Church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Debbie (Jim) Bruning of Mason, Ohio, Becky (Gene Boldman) Osborn of Wilmington, Ohio, Bill (Sandy) Fairchild Jr. of Clarksville, Ohio, Beverly (Craig) Rasnic of Lynchburg, Ohio, Carol (Michael) Garcia of North Manchester, Indiana, Jennifer (Jeff) Patterson of Sabina, Ohio, Ruth (Dave) Rhonemus of Lynchburg, Ohio, and Joyce Skeens of Sabina, Ohio; 17 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and seven great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by daughter, Cheryl Gilbert; son-in-law, Isaiah Skeens; brothers, James O. Fairchild, Amos R. Fairchild, and David Fairchild; sisters, Oralene Smith and Betty Fornshell; grandson, Nathan Smith; and great-grandchildren, Camden Fairchild, Michael Gilbert, and Josh Gilbert.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Monday, May 15, 2023 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. A funeral service with Ted Wright officiating will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, May 16, 2023 at Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Clinton County Memory Gardens with military honors provided by the American Legion Honor Guard.
The family would especially like to thank Autumn Years Nursing & Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care provided to Mr. & Mrs. Fairchild during his stay.
