Bobby Joe Hooper left this world and entered the heavenly kingdom on May 9, 2024. Bobby was born December 22, 1946 in Owenton, Kentucky to the late Vernon Leroy Hooper and Margaret Frances (Jones) Hooper. Bobby is survived by his brother, Vernon J. "Butch" (Connie) Hooper as well as his unfailing, lifelong friend, Jerry Davis who resides in Kentucky. Bobby is also survived by nieces, Stephanie (Glen) Blessing, Angela (Dwayne) Luttrell, and Amy (Matt) Metter, and several great nieces and nephews.
Bobby graduated from Simon Kenton High School and went on to further his basketball career at the University of Dayton, where he played for Coach Don Donoher. Bobby and his teammates played in the 1967 NCAA basketball finals, losing to Lew Alcindor and the UCLA Bruins. In 1968, the Flyers won the NIT in the newly constructed Madison Square Garden arena, where they defeated Kansas. Bobby went on to play for the Indiana Pacers in 1969 and after a debilitating hand injury, served as an assistant coach for the Pacers.
Most recently Bobby volunteered for Hospice of Clinton County and Ross County. He also enjoyed attending Real Joy Community Fellowship church in Chillicothe, Ohio.
A graveside service at Sugar Grove Cemetery will be held at the convenience of the family.
