CAROLYN THORNBURG Obituary

Carolyn Saunders Thornburg, 80, of New Vienna, Ohio died 1:15 AM, Monday, February 28, 2011 at her residence after a long illness. Her husband, Harold Thornburg, survives. They were married April 15, 1951. Mrs. Thornburg was born March 1, 1930, in Mt. Sterling, Kentucky, daughter of the late Raymond and Grace Saunders. She attended schools in Kentucky, but after her family moved to New Vienna she attended and graduated in 1948 from New Vienna High School. She graduated from Miami Jacobs College, Dayton. Mrs. Thornburg worked at the Clinton County Air Force Base and then Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. She was part of the Messengers Quartette, singing and traveling throughout Ohio and Kentucky. She was a member of the New Vienna United Methodist Church and enjoyed teaching a Sunday school class for many years, singing in the choir and participating in the women's group. She enjoyed being a homemaker and farm life, specially riding horses and going on trail rides. She also enjoyed clogging. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Thornburg is survived by two sons, David (Pam) Thornburg and Lewis (Kellie) Thornburg; five grandchildren, Kyler, Simon, Tara and Tiffany Thornburg and Seth (Teresa) Young; a great-grandson, Braydon Irwin; two sisters, Louise (Wilbur) Cline and Evelyn (Roger) Brown; a sister-in-law, Wilma Croghan; and many friends. Funeral services will be held 1:00 PM, Thursday, March 3, 2011 at the New Vienna United Methodist Church, State Route 28, New Vienna, Ohio with Rev. Robert Rider officiating. Burial will be in the New Vienna I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Friends may call from 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM, Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at the New Vienna United Methodist Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Community Care Hospice, P.O. Box 123, Wilmington, Ohio 45177.
