C. T. "Ted" Vandervort

C. T. “Ted” Vandervort, Jr. age 96 passed away February 15, 2025 at his residence at Ohio Living Cape May.  He was preceded in death by his parents C. T. Vandervort, Sr. and Opal Williams Vandervort.  Ted was born on December 20, 1928 in Wilmington, Ohio.  Ted married Mary Louise Calvert on November 17, 1950.  They enjoyed forty-six years together until her death in 1997.  Together they had two sons, David A. (Cheryl) Vandervort of Cincinnati, OH and C. Kent (Kim) Vandervort of Southern Pines, NC.  They had one grandchild, C. Grant (Suzie Koverman) Vandervort of Dayton, OH.  David predeceased Ted in 2017.

Ted’s second marriage was to Donna McCollister Doughman on October 22, 1999.  Donna predeceased Ted on November 19, 2014.  Ted is survived by six stepchildren from his marriage to Donna; Mary Doughman, Wade Doughman, Seth Doughman, Joel Doughman, Stacey Adams, and Tonya Pegg.

Ted graduated from Greenbrier Military Academy in Lewisburg, WV, and received his bachelor’s degree from Wilmington College in 1951.

After college Ted joined his parents in operating the Jamestown Canning Company in Jamestown, Ohio.  In 1963, Ted purchased the William Creamer Insurance Agency, which he later renamed the Vandervort Insurance Agency, Inc. He operated the insurance agency until 1984. In retirement, Ted worked part-time at Smith Funeral Home in Wilmington.

Ted was a lifelong resident of Wilmington and was active in a number of organizations including Wilmington Volunteer Fire Department, Wilmington Rotary Club, Wilmington Friends Meeting, Snow Hill Country Club, Boy Scouts of America, Friends of Hospice, Clinton County Chamber of Commerce, Clinton County Foundation, volunteer at Clinton Memorial Hospital, and the Adult Day Center.

There will be no services.  Ted’s ashes will be interred at Sugar Grove Cemetery.
