Carl Owen Stoops, 78, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away at 12:15 PM, Monday, August 21, 2023 at Wilmington Nursing & Rehabilitation Residence. He was born March 10, 1945 in Ray, Ohio, son of the late John Wesley Stoops and Jennie Pierson Stoops. He was raised by Rosemary & Dave Manor in Greene County and attended Cedarville Schools.
Carl was a longtime farm worker. He loved animals, gardening, and keeping a nice yard of flowers for Rosemary Manor. He was proud of his work. He enjoyed cowboy shows, driving his motorcycle and car, and visiting family and friends. His favorite food was fried chicken.
Carl is survived by two brothers, Harold Stoops of Lynchburg, Ohio and James Stoops of Wilmington, Ohio; three sisters, Caroline (David) Davison of Sabina, Ohio, Nancy (Benny) Wheelen of Xenia, Ohio, and Sharon (Greg) Jones of Xenia, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Darold Stoops, and three sisters, Mary Fink, Jean Glaze, and Vera May Miller.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Monday, August 28, 2023 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. A funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM, Monday. Burial will be in Clinton County Memory Gardens.
The family would like to thank the Manor family for taking Carl in, giving him work, and caring for him over the years. The family is also very appreciative of the care given to Carl by the staff of Wilmington Nursing & Rehabilitation over the last few years.
