Clifton Purvis Obituary

Our faithful earthly father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went home to Jesus sooner than we expected. We are thankful that he is in the presence of His Savior Jesus Christ and enjoying eternal life with no more aches or pains.

Clifton was born in the hills of Jackson County Kentucky in Sand Gap. He was raised in a holler called Gravel Lick. He loved the Bluegrass state. He farmed with his family until he was drafted into the U. S. Army during the Korean War. After returning to the States, he drove a coal truck, then moved to Ohio and worked in furniture upholstery. He met his wife, Mary Edith, and started a family in 1969. He ran Cliff’s Mobile Locksmith business for many years and drove a school bus on the side. He worked with his hands all his life until his hands couldn’t work anymore. He built barns, home additions, furniture, and even doll houses for his daughters.

Clifton was a man of few words but specialized in observing people and things. He was knowledgeable about a wide variety of subjects but would only share that knowledge when asked. He was content and patient even during life’s trials. He raised his family in church and lived a godly life in front of them. Clifton was a member of the Nazarene Church and towards the end of his life, a faithful attender of Bible Baptist Church of Wilmington, Ohio.

Clifton is preceded in death by his wife, Mary; his daughter, Angie Marie; his parents, Boyd and Susie; and siblings, Naunearl, Bonnie Jean, Nina Faye, and Johnny Dale. He is survived by his brother, Carl (Diana); his children, Carolyn (David), Sue, Dorscene, Robert (Kimberly), and Mitchell; as well as his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He leaves a hole in the heart of all who knew him.

Visitation will be held at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N South St., Wilmington, Ohio from 4:00 PM -5:00 PM, Tuesday February 4, 2025.  A Celebration of Life will follow immediately afterwards presided by Pastor Josh Dixon of Bible Baptist Church.

A private burial will be held in Kentucky on Wednesday February 5, 2025.
