Dolores Ann Loumenhouser Sewell, 86, of Whitehall, Ohio passed away Monday, August 28, 2023 at OSU East Hospital in Columbus after a lengthy hospital stay.
Dolores was born January 20, 1937, in Ogden, Clinton County, Ohio, daughter of the late Lon and Myrtle Campbell Loumenhouser. She had one sister, Betty Loumenhouser. Dolores graduated from Martinsville High School in 1955 where she was active in her school and church music programs.
She met her best friend and future husband, Earl Dean Sewell, while providing piano music at Villars Chapel in Wilmington, Ohio near Cowan Lake. They were married on August 6, 1956, and made beautiful music at church and together for 67 years. They were still providing music for services with recordings made at their home.
She was very involved wither her sons’, Michael and Mark, activities, served as den mother for scouts, and was active in the Whitehall Yearling HS Music and Athletic Boosters.
Dolores loved caring for children. She babysat for several families, and then loved caring for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they all arrived.
She and Earl loved assembling puzzles and often framed and shared them as gifts. She was happiest when she and Earl were together, no matter what the activity. She loved playing and singing hymns and sharing her love of Jesus and her faith.
Dolores is survived by her husband of 67 years, Earl Dean Sewell; son and daughters-in-law, Mark and Robin Sewell, and Karen Sewell; seven grandchildren, Kristin (Matt) Melo, Scott (Megan) Sewell, Kaitlyn (Lee) Moore, Daniel Sewell, Alyson (Jisoon) Kim, Andrew (Katie) Sewell, and Lea Hope Sewell; and seven great-grandchildren, Lilli Beth Melo, Justice Melo, Malachi Sewell, Mya Sewell, Eliana Sewell, Gavin Sewell, and Juno Kim. She is also survived and cherished by extended family, Charlene Sutton, Lee Jeffers, Amy Jeffers, Alexa Jeffers, and Logan Jeffers.
In addition to her parents, Dolores was preceded in death by a son, Michael Dean Sewell; great-grandson, Judah Melo; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Howard Shively; nephew, Gene Shively; and brothers-in-law and sister-in-law, Aaron and Dorothy Sewell and Fred Sewell
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Friday, September 1, 2023 and 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Saturday, September 2, 2023 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. A funeral service with Scott & Mark Sewell officiating will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday. Burial will follow in Springfield Friends Cemetery.
