Elizabeth Bowers Obituary

Elizabeth "Betty" "Mima" Bowers, 85, of Wilmington, Ohio, passed away peacefully in her sleep at Ohio Living Cape May on October 27, 2022.

Betty was born February 6, 1937 in Clinton County, Ohio.  Betty was the daughter of John P. and Louise Kuebler Georges.  She attended Wayne Township and Wilmington City Schools, graduating in 1955 from Simon Kenton High School in Lees Creek, Ohio.  She was employed by Lieurance Insurance Service and Clinton County Air Force Base until her marriage on August 19, 1967 to John W. “Bill” Bowers.  They were stationed at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma and Craig AFB in Selma, Alabama where their daughter, Sharon Louise, was born in 1969.  They moved back to Ohio in 1969.

Betty was treasurer of the Clinton County Board of Education until her retirement.  She also worked at Blanchester Local Schools and Wilmington City Schools after she retired from the Clinton County Board of Education.  In retirement you would find her crocheting doilies, writing a poem for every special occasion, taking frequent visits to her favorite casinos, and hanging out at the lottery ticket machine scratching off lottery tickets at Kroger.

Betty was a lifetime member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church where she was active in the choirs, women's 500 card club and Sacred Heart Sodality. She loved her granddaughter, Lauren Louise Lewis, very much and most of Lauren's friends would call her Mima.  You would find Betty at every soccer game, basketball game, softball game or track meet that Lauren would be participating in at Wilmington schools throughout the years and even at soccer games into Lauren's college years at Wilmington College. She was always Lauren's biggest fan.

Betty is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Shari and Kyle Lewis, granddaughter, Lauren Louise Lewis, sister Geraldine “G-G” Walker and sister-in-law, Mary Ann Georges.  Preceding her in death were her husband, Bill; sisters, Rose Ellen “Rosie” Georges, Martha Jane “Mart” Custis, Mary Catherine “Mary Cat” Brennan, Anna Louise “Annie” McCann; brother, John F. “Bud” Georges; and brothers-in-law, Carl Custis, Richard “Dick” Brennan, Willard “Bill” McCann, and Robert “Bob” Walker.
