Evelyn Sue Rice Dalton, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025, at the age of 79.
Sue was an independent and strong-willed woman who loved her family deeply, each in her own unique way. She found great joy in gardening and took pride in preserving the fruits and vegetables she grew. She also loved to shop and never passed up the chance to find a good bargain.
For 15 years, Sue served as a 4-H advisor for Pork Pride 4-H club, guiding and encouraging young people as they developed new skills, confidence, and pride in their accomplishments.
Sue’s family was always at the heart of her life. She is survived by her sons, Rodney Dalton of Wilmington and Shannon (Michelle Montgomery) Dalton of Wilmington; her grandsons, Owen Dalton, Donaven Dalton, and Ian Dalton, all of Wilmington, and Alex Haines of Batavia. She is also survived by her brother, Steven (Linda) Rice of Blanchester; and sisters, Linda G. Rice of Midland and Jean (Butch) Richards of Blanchester.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Louis and Mamie Rice.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Cape May Assisted Living for their extraordinary kindness and care — your compassion meant so much to us. Special thanks also go to the many cab drivers at Wilmington Transit who, for the past 15 years, provided Sue with reliable rides and plenty of friendly smiles along the way.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
