Hesa Ray Carroll

Hesa Ray Carroll, 82, of Clarksville, Ohio passed away Saturday, April 25, 2020 at Wilmington Nursing & Rehabilitation Residence.  He was born April 2, 1938 in Prestonburg, Kentucky, son of the late Joe and Betty Carroll.  The family left the hills of Kentucky and moved to Lorain, Ohio to build a better life.  In 1963 he married Zellia Hamilton and they remained married until she passed away in 2001.

Mr. and Mrs. Carroll moved to Clarksville in 1970 where he ran the Clarksville Stave Company (sawmill) for over 25 years.  During that time, Mr. Carroll employed many young men and passed his knowledge and work ethic on to all of them.  His philosophy in life was to treat everyone as he wanted to be treated.

His passion and hobbies in life included watching grandkids, Dusty, Craig, Jay, and Chris play baseball and other sports from the time they were five years old until they stopped playing.  He also enjoyed going to the old Lebanon Raceway and watching harness racing.  He always put out a garden in the summer and would pass out tomatoes and cucumbers to his family and friends.  He took up making peanut butter fudge 20 years ago and would give it to anyone who liked it as much as he liked making it.

Mr. Carroll is survived by three sons, Dave (Theresia) Carroll of Clarksville, Ohio, Rolland (Theresa) Moore of Lorain, Ohio, and Charles (Mollie) Moore of Lorain, Ohio; a daughter, Beverly (Tim) Floyd of Clarksville, Ohio; a brother, Randy Carroll; a sister, Cora Tussey; 11 grandchildren, Dusty Carroll, Tiffany Jackson, Jay Jackson, Craig Floyd, Chris Floyd, Jason Moore, Anita Moore-Kubishke, Liz Moore Dower, Christy Hall, Gene Hall, and Viki Jo Moore; as well as several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his wife and parents, a son, Curtis Hall, two brothers, Tom Carroll and Leonard Carroll, and two sisters, Glena Sue Thompson and Lucy Perry, and a grandson, Jeff Moore, are preceded in death.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon, Friday, May 1, 2020 at the Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio.  A funeral service with John Sodini officiating will be held at 12:00 Noon, Friday.  Burial will be in Clarksville Cemetery.  Following the burial, family and friends are invited to Dave and Theresia Carroll’s home for food and fellowship.
