Jane Maxwell (Dewey) Gano

February 14, 1928 ~ September 2, 2023 (age 95) 95 Years Old

Obituary

Jane Maxwell Dewey Gano was born on Valentines Day, February 14, 1928, to Joseph Collier Dewey and Maxine Rose Maxwell Dewey in Blanchester, Ohio. She went to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 2, 2023.

She graduated from Blanchester High School and attended Miami University where she was a member of Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. She graduated with a degree in secretarial studies. In 1950 she married Granville J. Gano and moved to his farm outside of Wilmington, Ohio.

They raised two sons, Granville Allen Gano (Judy Henson Gano) and Dr. Robert Dewey Gano (Marcia Mitchell Gano).

She taught school in Port William half days for two years. Then she joined her husband in farming. She was a member of the Blanchester United Methodist Church, the Lumberton United Methodist Church and then the Eleazer United Methodist Church. She belonged to two bridge clubs, Chapter F of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, which is an educational organization, and the third Saturday Night group of friends.

She is survived by her two sons, her granddaughters, Cortney Gano (Mark) Hatmaker, Alexis Gano (Aaron) Cox, Dr. Emma Gano (Dr. Paul Bonner) and Dr. Jacqueline Gano (Jimmy Lockhart). She felt so fortunate to live a few miles from their four granddaughters which was close enough to care for them, play with them, make things for them like a lighted Orion sweatshirt, a Smurf costume, and a Minnie Mouse costume.

She was blessed with seven great-grandchildren, Aiden, Arabelle, and Aleigha Hatmaker; Josephine and Georgiana Cox; and Anderson and Owen Bonner.  Jane loved her family including her sisters, Anne Dewey Williams of Dallas and Martha Dewey Jacoby of Kettering and her many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM, Thursday, September 7, 2023 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N.
