Psalm 4:8, “I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep; for Thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.”
Janice Elizabeth (Bope) Trout, 82, of Wilmington, Ohio, fell into the kind arms of her Lord Jesus on January 3, 2026. Born August 21, 1943, in Columbus, Ohio, to Donald J. and Ethel Bope. “Jan” grew up with a love for family, faith, and the simple joys of life.
On May 23, 1964, she married her best friend and the love of her life, George Herman Trout. Together, they built a home filled with laughter, love, and devotion. Jan was blessed with four children and is survived by two sons and three daughters-in-law, Jody Trout, John (Christine) Trout, Donald (Penny) Trout; seven grandchildren Jake, Lauren, Michael, Joel, Seth, Xavier, and Paige; and four great-grandchildren, Lilura, Milo, Roslyn, and Keagan—each of whom brought her immense joy. Her first two sons, Mark Matthew and Brian James, have gone before her to the Throne of Heaven.
Jan’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was an active member of Bible Baptist Church, where she cherished her church family and found strength in God’s Word. Her favorite verses—Matthew 19:26, I Peter 2:11, I Corinthians 6:19, and all of the Psalms (!)—guided her through life’s journey. She also loved hymns that spoke to the heart, especially “Trust and Obey” and “I Need Thee Every Hour.”
She was proud of her heritage, too, becoming a member of the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution on August 5, 2017. At home in Wilmington, Janice enjoyed the warmth of small-town life, cooking for her family, watching Hall Mark movies, cheering for the Buckeyes, caring for her pets (especially Bella!), and sharing time with those she loved most.
Jan’s life was a beautiful example of faith, kindness, and love. Her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends, and her legacy of devotion and grace will never be forgotten.
Jan’s family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon, Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Bible Baptist Church of Wilmington, 55 Megan Drive, Wilmington, Ohio, followed by a funeral service with Pastor Josh Dixon officiating. Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Jan’s memory may be made to Bible Baptist Church, 55 Megan Drive, Wilmington, Ohio 45177.
