John Bay Obituary

John T. Bay, 93, of Wilmington, Ohio, passed away Sunday, December 17, 2023 at Primrose Memory Care of Anderson, Indiana.  His wife, Barbara Williams Bay, preceded him in death September 10, 2020.  He was born July 24, 1930 in Wilmington, son of the late  Rev. Howard T. Bay and Mary Ledman Bay.

John was a graduate of Cumberland High School and a 1952 graduate of The Ohio State University in Agriculture. While at OSU, he served as President of Alpha Zeta Fraternity, and was active with the American Dairy Program, the University Chorus, the Association of 4-H, and the Grange.

After serving in the U.S. Army in San Antonia TX, John returned to Wilmington in 1956 and began farming with his father-in-law and brother-in-law, Walter and Wilbur Williams.  Upon his retirement from farming, he worked at ABX and Reynolds-Smith Funeral Home.

John was a member of the Sharon United Methodist Church and served as a 4-H advisor for many years.  He was also involved in the Clinton Conservation District, the Farm Bureau, and was a volunteer at Clinton Memorial Hospital.

John is survived by his daughter, Mary Catherine (Jack) Fulda, of Anderson, Indiana, son Richard Bay of Florida; grandchildren, Jennifer (Jason) Kassick of Florida, Jami Bay of Wilmington, Andrea (Brian) Fowler of Omaha, Nebraska, Tasha (Ryan) Elijah of Florida, and Anthony (Gretchen Strate) Fulda of Minnesota; great-grandchildren, Tyler Ford, Ava Fowler, Ella Fowler, Simon Strate, Ari Strate, Jacob Elijah, and Luke Elijah; sister-in-law, Avonelle Brown Williams; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, John was preceded in death by a son, Michael Bay; siblings, Elizabeth (Chester) McGrew, Robert (Rosemary) Bay, David (Rosemary) Bay, Margaret (Fritz) Betzel, and Jim Bay; mother-in-law and father-in-law, Edna and Walter Williams; brother-in-law, Wilbur Williams; and sister-in-law, Elaine Williams.

The family would like to thank the caring staff of Primrose Memory Care and Paradigm Hospice Care in Anderson Indiana as well as We Care Elderly Homecare in Wilmington, Ohio for the excellent care provided to John.

Friends will be received from 10:00 AM – 12:00 Noon, Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio.  A funeral service will begin at 12:00 Noon, Wednesday followed by burial in Miami Cemetery, Corwin, Ohio.
