John Roger Woodmansee, 88, of New Vienna, Ohio died peacefully at home April 12, 2021. He was the son of Herman and Ada Spears Woodmansee. After Ada’s death when John was four years old, his father married Martha Jones.
John was a 1951 graduate of Fairfield High School in Leesburg and served in the United States Marine Corps from 1951 – 1953 as a fighter aircraft engine mechanic.
Upon completion of his military service, he worked as a lineman for General Telephone Company before beginning his own telephone construction business which he operated for 20 years. After retiring from the construction business, he returned to full time farming on his family farm near New Vienna.
He was an active member of both Highland Friends Meeting and Leesburg Friends Church. He was a member of the Dalton Lodge of the Free and Accepted Masons and of the Robert B. Crites Detachment of the Marine Corps League.
He is survived by his wife, Darlene Elizabeth Waddell Woodmansee, whom he married November 11, 1952; son, Douglas Bryon (Patricia Thomas) Woodmansee of Wilmington, Ohio; grandsons, Michael T. Woodmansee of Alvin, Texas and Quinton M. Woodmansee of Hilliard, Ohio; three great-grandchildren; and a brother-in-law, Paul Dean (Elizabeth Van Pelt) Waddell.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Saturday, April 17, 2021 at the Leesburg Friends Church, 149 South Street, Leesburg, Ohio. A funeral service with Pastor John Fitzgerald officiating will begin at 11:00 AM, Saturday at the church. Burial will follow in Highland Methodist Cemetery in Highland, Ohio.
