Joseph "Bob" Wilson Obituary

Joseph R. “Bob” Wilson, 101, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away Thursday, May 15, 2025 at the Chillicothe VA Medical Center.  His wife, Margaret Alice Wilson, preceded him in death July 15, 2020.  They were married June 2, 1946.  He was born June 27, 1923 in Locust Grove, Ohio, son of the late Virgil Wilson and Faye Cline Wilson.

Mr. Wilson was a first sergeant in the U.S. Army with the 607th Field Artillery Battalion during World War II in France, Germany and Austria.

He was the former owner of the Farquhar Furnace Company.  Bob was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Wilmington where he served as moderator, Deacon, Sunday school superintendent, and Sunday school teacher.  He had also been a trustee to the Ohio Baptist Convention.  Bob was the first cubmaster of Pack 62 at Denver Place School and served many years with the Boy Scouts in Troop HH.  He was a member of American Legion Post 49 and a charter member of VFW Post 6710.  Bob was also a member of the Wilmington Lion’s Club and was a recipient of the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award.

Survivors include his sons, Joseph R. (Nancy) Wilson Jr. of Marysville, Washington, Gary Lee (Lannae) Wilson of Wilmington, Ohio, and Michael Lane (Irma) Wilson of Sammamish, Washington; daughter, Janet Ann (Albert “Mo”) Moses of Salem, Missouri; a brother, Jim (Donna) Wilson of Wilmington, Ohio; three sisters, Doris Roberts of Wilmington, Ohio, Louise (Troy) Todd of Florida, and Jane Gruver of Texas; as well as numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 12:00 Noon, Thursday, May 22, 2025 at First Baptist Church of Wilmington, 79 E. Locust Street, Wilmington, Ohio.  A service with Pastor Larry Stewart officiating will begin at 12:00 Noon Thursday.  Burial will be in Sugar Grove Cemetery with military honors presented by the American Legion Post 49 Honor Guard.
