Lester M. Schoonover, 84, of Lebanon, Ohio passed away Wednesday, December 15, 2021 at Atrium Medical Center. His wife, Joann Smith Schoonover, survives. They were married December 28, 1974. He was born September 22, 1937 in Waynesville, Ohio, son of the late Carl E. Schoonover and Edith E. Hale Schoonover.
Mr. Schoonover retired as a sergeant from the U.S. Army after 23 years of service. He also retired from Lebanon City Schools where he worked as the custodian and drove a school bus. He enjoyed taking cruises and fishing.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by four sons, James R. Frost, Barry L. Frost, Michael J. Davis, and Charles E. (Renee) Davis; two daughters, Vicky L. (Tracy) Koehler and Deborah A. Hall; a brother, Leonard Schoonover; three sisters, Vera Gross, Laverne Roberts, and Grace Amyot; 14 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, a daughter, Katherine L. Shaffer, a sister, Ruth Fitch, and a grandchild, are preceded in death.
Friends may call from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Monday, December 27, 2021 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. The funeral service will be 1:00 PM, Tuesday, December 28 at Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in Miami Cemetery, Waynesville, Ohio with military honors provided by the United States Army.
