Melodee E (Leach) Smith

Melodee E. (Leach) Smith, 67, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away Monday, May 20, 2024 at home surrounded by her family.  Her loving husband of 46 years, Dana W. Smith, survives.  She was born on January 19, 1957 in Xenia Ohio, daughter of the late Howard M. Leach and Phyllis E. Coss Leach Martin.

Melodee attended Greeneview High School and the Greene County Career Center graduating in 1975 after studying cosmetology. Melodee began her cosmetology career in Jamestown, Ohio and eventually owned her own business in Xenia, Ohio. She retired in 2024 after 49 years. She dearly loved her clients who became like family.

Melodee was a devout Christian, and proudly proclaimed her Faith in Christ. She was a member of the Port William Church in Port William. Ohio.  She enjoyed spending time with her family, being in her pool, yard-saling, doing hair, and doing things for others. Being a mother and grandmother was the joy of her life.

In addition to her husband, Melodee is survived by her three children, Justin (Amy) Smith, Josh (Brittany) Smith, and Emily (Jeff) Gragg and five grandchildren, Kelsey (Cameron) Alexander, Kolton Smith, Kaiden Smith, Paxton Smith, and Garrett Hughes all of Wilmington.   She is also survived by a brother, Howard (Sue Sharp) Leach of Xenia; her mother-in-law, Meredith Smith of Wilmington; sister and brothers-in-law; and many nieces, nephews, and lifelong dear friends. 

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by three brothers, Kenton Leach, Steven Leach, and Todd Leach; her father-in-law, Marion L. Smith; and a nephew, John Leach.

The family will receive friends from 11:30 AM – 1:00 PM, Friday, May 24, 2024 at the Port Willliam Church, 241 Main Street, Port William, Ohio.  A funeral service with Pastor Virgil Hawkins officiating, will begin at 1:00 PM, Friday at the Port William Church.  Burial will follow in New Burlington Cemetery.
