Michael B. Flanigan, 75, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away Thursday, July 13, 2023 at Ohio Living Cape May. His wife, Linda Cummings Flanigan, whom he married December 28, 1968, survives. He was born August 17, 1947 in White Marsh, Maryland, son of the late Frances Charles Flanigan and Olive Margaret Brown Flanigan. Mr. Flanigan was a 1966 graduate of Blanchester High School and served in the U.S. Air Force from 1966 to 1970. He then served in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.
Mr. Flanigan retired after working 34 years for the Department of Defense at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base and Wright Patterson Air Force Base. He was a member of the Wilmington Masonic Lodge #52 and a 32nd degree member of the Scottish Rite. He was also a member of St. Columbkille Catholic Church and a volunteer for the Cincinnati Multiple Sclerosis Society. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, woodworking, and old cars.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Flanigan is survived by three children, Timothy (Jaime) Flanigan of Wilmington, Ohio, Melissa (Stephanie George) Flanigan of Baltimore, Ohio, and Michael (Chastity) Flanigan of Wilmington, Ohio; a sister, Olivia Oberlin of Xenia, Ohio; five grandchildren, Taylor (Paul) Singleton, Tori Flanigan, Alex Flanigan, Austin Flanigan, and Andrew Flanigan; two great-grandchildren, Sawyer Singleton and Sutton Singleton; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great-nephews; and his companion dog, Kookie.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Larry Gene Flanigan, and a sister, Charlene Baum.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, Tuesday, July 18, 2023 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. A funeral service with Rev. Jim Graham officiating will begin at 1:00 PM, Tuesday. Burial will follow in Martinsville I.O.O.F. Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Air Force and the American Legion Post 49 Honor Guard.
