Ollie Sue Fairchild Grooms, 86, of New Vienna, Ohio passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2025 at Christ Hospital, Cincinnati, Ohio. Her husband, James Grooms, preceded her in death March 17, 2004. They were married on August 31, 1957. She was born August 9, 1938 in Warren County, Ohio, daughter of the late Fred Fairchild and Susie McClain Fairchild. She was a graduate of Harveysburg High School.
Mrs. Grooms was a longtime cashier at Bob & Carl’s Grocery in Wilmington and Hillsboro. Most importantly though, she was a devoted mother and grandmother.
She is survived by her children, James Kelly (Bernadine) Grooms of Crestview, Florida, Rebecca (Chuck) Jenkins of Wilmington, Ohio, and Brian Grooms of New Vienna, Ohio; grandchildren, Summer (Roy) Howard, Daniel (Mark Massey) Tucker, Chrissy (Travis) Mattingly, Kirsten (John) Alexander, James Kenneth (Ashleigh) Grooms, and Samatha (Curtis Keener) Grooms; great-grandchildren, Jayden Howard, Layla Howard, Rebecca Howard, Annabelle Howard, Taylor Liner, Skylor Halstead, Cheyenne Jones, Janie Mattingly, Zachary Mattingly, Ella Grooms, Zeke Grooms, Noah Grooms, Gideon Grooms, Lilly-Anne Grooms, and Grace Byers; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, a son, Jeff Grooms; a daughter, Karen Tucker; two brothers, Herbert Fairchild and Fred Fairchild Jr.; and six sisters, Blanche Patrick, Louise Jacobs, Sarah Eakins, Christine Harvey, Lillian Ellis, and Jean Runyon are preceded in death.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Wednesday, January 29, 2025 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM. Burial will be in New Vienna I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
