Rev. Floyd Banks Obituary

Rev. Floyd W. Banks, 92, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away Thursday, February 19, 2026 at Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton, Ohio.  He was born March 30, 1933 in Wilmington, Ohio, son of the late Joseph Banks and Mildred Watson Banks.

He married Emma Louise Banks on June 21, 1963.  Emma preceded him in death December 17, 1998. 

Rev. Banks was the pastor at the Community Church of God for 17 years.  He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his children, Angela E. Fortune of Elgin, South Carolina, Doris J. Lewis of Lake Alfred, Florida, and Thomas Newsome of Bull Head City, Arizona; grandchildren, Kenneth Perry, Latoiea White, Jonathan Spratling, Lakesha Lewis, Shantae Lewis, Mariah Newsome, Stephen Spratling, Stephanie Spratling, and Keanu Newsome; a niece, Barbara Banks Williams; several great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his wife and parents, Rev. Banks was preceded in death by a son, Timothy Newsome; daughters, Jonette Spratling and Molly Ann Spratling; a grandson, Darrell Smith; seven brothers; and four sisters.

Rev. Banks’ family would especially like to thank Larry and Jennifer Williams and family for everything they have done for him over the years.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Wednesday, February 25, 2026 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio, followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.  Burial will be in Springfield Friends Cemetery with military honors provided by the American Legion Post 49 Honor Guard.
