Robert L. “Cob” Irwin, 95, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away January 21, 2025. His wife, Mary Lois Irwin, preceded him in death July 13, 2022. They were married on May 11, 1951. He was born November 2, 1929 in New Vienna, Ohio, the son of John William Irwin and Eva Mae Barnes Irwin.
Mr. Irwin began his career working at Frigidaire in Dayton and eventually retired from General Motors. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Wilmington and VFW Post 6710. He was a graduate of New Vienna High School and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Robert loved being outdoors and was an avid fisherman.
Survivors include his son, John L. (Connie) Irwin of New Vienna, Ohio; daughter, Jana Irwin of California; five grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
In addition to his wife and parents, a granddaughter, Jonda Heizman; five brothers; and five sisters are preceded in death.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 7:00 PM, Friday, January 31, 2025 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio. A funeral service with Rev. Connor L. Thompson officiating will be held 10:00 AM, Saturday, February 1, 2025 at Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be in New Vienna I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
