Roberta Ann (Cleland) Shingler

Roberta Ann Shingler, 88, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away Monday, October 7, 2024 at Shawnee Estates in Xenia, Ohio.  Her husband, Samuel C. Shingler, preceded her in death February 27, 2022.  They were married on October 7, 1956.

She was born July 13, 1936 in Martinsville, Ohio, daughter of the late Ren S. Cleland and Norma Roberta “Bobbie” Crist Cleland.  She was a graduate of Martinsville High School and was active in the alumni association.  She received her bachelor’s degree from Kent State University.

Mrs. Shingler retired after teaching several years at Newcomerstown Elementary School.  She was an active member of the Wilmington United Methodist Church and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She had also been involved in 4-H.  She enjoyed spending time at the Clinton County Aging Up Community Center playing chair volleyball, cards, and scrabble.  She was known for sewing skills and was an avid collector of red bird items.

Roberta is survived by her son, Jeffrey R (Tammy) Shingler of Xenia, Ohio; brother, James A. (Pat) Cleland of Cleveland, Ohio; and granddaughter, Brandi Rose (Douglas) Clendening.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM, Friday, October 18, 2024 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio followed by a service at 11:00 AM.  Interment will be in Martinsville I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
