Thomas Eugene Carey

Thomas Eugene Carey, 92, Of Sabina, Ohio, passed away peacefully at Miami Valley Hospital, Thursday, June 1, 2023, surrounded by the love of family. Mr. Carey was born May 24, 1931, son of Neal and Evelyn Carey of New Vienna, Ohio. Tom was predeceased by the passing of Phyllis Page Carey, after a loving marriage of 72 years. Only 18 days separated the passing of the Carey couple.

He attended The Ohio State University on a golf and basketball scholarship. At a height of 5’ 8’’ Carey could dunk a basketball; he was honored by the Clinton County Sports Hall of Fame. He won the Snow Hill Country Club golf championship three times. For four years, Mr. Carey served our country in the United States Navy during the Korean War.

During his life in Clinton County, he farmed with his father-in-law, son, and grandson. He was also a real estate salesman and retired from Mead Containers. Upon retirement, the Careys wintered in Bradenton, Florida. With wife, Phyllis, Tom traveled throughout Europe, Russia, the Americas, the Caribbean, with Costa Rica a frequent favorite.

Tom was a dedicated father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He is survived by children, Gregory Howard Carey (Tina Foster) and Amy Lynn Carey (Susan Golden); grandchildren, Reed Thomas Carey (Elizabeth) and Adam Howard Carey (Melanie); and great-grandchildren, Levi Benjamin Carey, Paige Elizabeth Carey, and Wade Gregory Carey.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 AM – 1:00 PM, June 9, 2023 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio with a service immediately following the visitation. Burial with full military honors, will follow the service at New Vienna I.O.O.F. Cemetery.
