Thomas Smith Obituary

Thomas J. “Tom” Smith, 77, of New Lebanon (formerly of Springboro) passed away Friday, December 31, 2021 at Miami Valley Hospital surrounded by his loving family.  His loving wife of 18 ½ years, Brenda J. Wade Smith, survives.  He was born October 9, 1944 in Spring Valley, Ohio, son of the late Wayne B. Smith and Margaret K. Perdue Smith.  He was a graduate of Springboro High School and served in the U.S. Army 1/27th c. co 25th Infantry Division during Vietnam.

Tom worked 35 years at General Motors and 14 years at Concrete Technology.  He also served 25 years with the Clearcreek Township Fire Department and Life Squad.

Tom was a member of the 27th Infantry Regiment Historical Society “The Wolfhound Pack,” the Veteran Social Command of Middletown, Ohio, the National Wild Turkey Federation, Whittington Center, Whitetails Unlimited, Chevy Truck Legends, and the NRA.

In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his three children, Thomas J. “Tom” Smith Jr. of Springboro, Ohio, Timothy “Tim” (Faith) Smith of Springboro, Ohio, and Tammie Smith (Michael) Keith of Scottsville, Kentucky; three stepdaughters, Melissa Wade (Ed) Gallman of Camden, Ohio, Jonda Izor (Scott Wilburn) Smith of West Carrolton, Ohio, and Ann Izor (Don) Gill of Waynesville, Ohio; a sister, Linda (Eldon) Barnhart; two brothers, Pete (Karen) Smith and John (Kim) Smith; 18 grandchildren, Jamie Vandegrift, Robbie (Chelsie) Gallman, Samantha (Mitch) Gallman, Emily Gill, Jessica (Jake) Gill, Hannah Gill, Maria Gill, Ashley (Tommy) Daniels, Amanda Smith, Thomas J. “Tom” (Tayler) Smith III, Madison (Aaron) Smith, Ashley Susan Long, Megan (John) Wills, Katie Smith, Kayla Smith, Maci Sizemore, Izabel Sizemore, and Charlotte Keith; 16 great-grandchildren, Aspen Daniels, Aubrey Daniels, Anna Smith, Bralen Smith, Sophia Smith, Colette Smith, Maya Smith, Acelynn Burton, Addelynn Burton, Macie Wills, Johnny Wills, Vindon Vandegrift, Jayce Gallman, Paisley Gallman, Alexander Gallman, and a great-granddaughter due in the spring; his brother-in-law, Steve (Rhonda) Wade; his previous wife of 35 years, Judy A. Smith; dear family friend, Sandy McKeever; as well as numerous beloved aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his sister, Faye Ann Smith Abner; his mother-in-law, Flava Clouser Wade, his father-in-law, Robert “Bob” Wade; and dear friend, Bill McKeever.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM, Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church of Springboro, 60 E. North Street, Springboro, Ohio.  A funeral service with Pastor Tom Allen officiating will be held at 10:00 AM, Thursday, January 13, 2022 at First United Methodist Church of Springboro.  Burial will be in Springboro Cemetery with military honors provided by the U.S. Army.  Following interment, the celebration of Tom's life will continue at the Springboro Eagles, 125 E. Central Street, Springboro, Ohio.
