Thomas "Tom” Ackerman, 78, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away Sunday, October 3, 2021 at his residence, surrounded by family. His wife, Sharon Clayton Ackerman, survives. They were married November 23, 1979 in Marion, Ohio. He was born September 12, 1943 in Columbus, Ohio, son of the late Charles and Mary Dustman Ackerman. He attended Mechanicsburg High School and graduated from Athens High School. He obtained his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture as well as his master’s degree from The Ohio State University.
Tom's passion was agriculture. He taught vocational agriculture for many years at various schools including Leesburg and Elgin and helped farmers with record keeping through a program at schools, including Tri-Rivers and Laurel Oaks. After retiring, he owned and operated Farm & Small Business Consulting Service LLC, where he continued to provide computerized farm record keeping.
He was a longtime member of the Prospect United Methodist Church, the Wilmington United Methodist Church and since 2019 had been a member of the Lebanon United Methodist Church. He was a longtime 4-H advisor, president of the Ohio Vocational Agriculture Teachers Association and also a member of the Ohio Farm Bureau and the Ohio Retired Teachers Association. He was an avid Ohio State Football fan and enjoyed watching games with his family. He also enjoyed playing golf.
In addition to his wife, Tom is survived by his sons, Kevin (Suelyn) Ackerman of Richwood, Ohio, Eric (Angela) Farson of Marion, Ohio, Garret (Debi) Farson of Lebanon, Ohio, Chad Ackerman of Dublin, Ohio, and Jed Ackerman of Maitland, Florida; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and his lifetime friend, Tom “Santo” Thompson of Georgia. He was also preceded in death by his two brothers, Rand and Rob Ackerman.
A graveside service with Pastor Stephen Cramer officiating will be held 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Clinton County Memory Gardens, 1628 Center Road, Wilmington, Ohio. Those attending the graveside service are encouraged to wear Ohio State attire in memory of Tom.
