Vera Ann (Lucas) Groves

Vera Ann Lucas Groves, 91, of Wilmington, Ohio passed away Saturday, October 7, 2023 at her residence.  Her husband, Richard Russell Groves, preceded her in death March 16, 2012.  They were married on June 11, 1949.  She was born February 29, 1932 in West Woodville, Ohio, daughter of the late Howard Whitmer Lucas and Mary Jane Florea.  She was a 1949 graduate of Blanchester High School.

Mrs. Groves retired after a long career at Losey’s Pharmacy in Wilmington.  She was a lifelong member of the Blanchester Church of Christ.  Vera enjoyed embroidery, quilting, reading, and doing jigsaw puzzles.  She loved spending time with family and watching her great-grandchildren’s activities.

She is survived by her children, James (Becky Davies) Groves, Linda (Tom) Kittle, Richard Groves, Robert (Mary Tissot) Groves, and John Groves; a brother, Kenneth (Joyce) Lucas; her grandchildren, Kimberly (Chad) Shaffer, Jennifer (Michael) Sarber, Erin (Ryan) Dipzinski, Stephanie (Casey) Woodruff, Andrew (Laura) Hamm, Ethan Groves, Christina (Jason) Morrow, Jamie (Jimmy) Roe, Steven (Jordan) Groves, and Alicia Ferguson; step-grandchildren, Sean (Bonnie) Kittle and Minda VanLeeuwen; 33 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, a brother, Eugene Lucas, is preceded in death.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM – 11:30 AM, Friday, October 13, 2023 at Smith Funeral Home, 327 N. South Street, Wilmington, Ohio.  A funeral service with Troy Villars officiating will begin at 11:30 Friday.  Burial will follow in Sugar Grove Cemetery.
